A Second Example: Flush Draw

With four cards of one suit after the flop, nine cards of that suit normally remain among the 47 unseen cards. The chance of completing the Flush on the next card is 9/47, about 19.1%. Before treating all nine as clean outs, check whether a paired board or higher possible Flush could leave you drawing to a second-best hand.

Compare Probability with Price

Calling a draw is justified only when the expected chance of winning is greater than the break-even percentage supplied by the pot, after accounting for opponent ranges and dirty outs. When future betting remains, implied odds may add value if you expect to win more chips after improving. On the river there is no future street, so implied odds no longer supplement the current pot odds.

Odds Are One Part of the Decision

Probability does not replace range analysis, position, bet sizing, or opponent tendencies. Pocket Aces are the strongest starting pair, but their value changes as the board and number of opponents change. Recalculate using the completed information on each street and avoid assuming that every apparent out produces the best hand.
