All-In
A move where a player commits every chip in their stack to the current hand.
Ante
A forced bet paid by each player before the hand begins to build the pot.
Bankroll
The total money or chips a player has set aside for poker play.
Bluff
A bet or raise made with a weak hand to make stronger hands fold.
Board
The shared community cards placed face up in the center of the table.
C — D
Call
To match the current bet amount and continue in the hand.
Check
To pass the action without betting when no wager is currently outstanding.
Dead Money
Chips already in the pot that can be won after another player folds.
Donkey
A slang term for a player considered inexperienced or prone to poor decisions.

M — P
MTT
Short for multi-table tournament, where many tables play toward one final table.
Position
A player’s seat order relative to the dealer, which affects when they act.
Pot Odds
The ratio between the current pot size and the cost of a contemplated call.
Pocket Pair
A starting hand in which a player’s two hole cards are the same rank.
R — S
Range
The group of hands a player could logically have in a given spot.
River
The fifth and final community card dealt in Texas Hold'em.
Showdown
The moment remaining players reveal their cards to determine the winner.
Slow Play
To play a very strong hand passively in order to encourage more betting from opponents.
